We are hoping to to be with Cael to celebrate his 5th birthday -- April 9th. Hopefully everything will fall into place so that we can.

Still Waiting...

Hello All...I decided to post to let everyone know that we STILL do not have a Travel Authorization (TA). When we were finally able to get some information from our agency, we found out that our travel will more than likely be pushed back to "the latter part of March". In an effort to be "anxious for nothing", we are working around the house to clean out closets of clothes, shoes, etc. that have not been worn since our last move!
I would like to say thank you to our dear friends Barbara and Dennis for a terrific visit last week! We have not seen them for many years and it was a awesome break from the day to day! The picture above is in honor of their gift of all the Navy gear that we wore to the Texas Bowl in Houston on New Year's Eve (USNA vs Mizzou)...Yeah, Navy Won!!
I would also like to thank our neighbor Carolyn for cleaning out her son's closet, so that we could fill up Cael's!
We promise to keep you posted when we hear anything...keep those prayers coming!!

Final Home-Study

We completed our final home-study visit this week in preparation of our trip to China. One more hurdle in the in the shuffle of paperwork and visits.

After receiving updated measurements this last week, we ventured out this weekend in search of some shoes and clothing for Cael. Knowing that he has nothing, and not knowing what to expect when we get to China, we decided to take some things with us...hope they fit! Anyway, the boys' room is almost done and we are VERY excited to bring Cael home.

Cael EnYi Ferland

So, after many weeks of discussing what EnYi's official American name would be, we have decided on the following: Cael EnYi Ferland. We thought it would be important to leave him something of his past. Even though Li, En Yi was the name given to him by the orphanage director, it is all he has known for some time. We also thought it would be wise to give him an English name to help his transition to America. (According to name-meanings.com, Cael means "Victorious People" and is of Celtic/Gaelic origin) So, after a family vote...Cael EnYi Ferland is what he will be called from here on out.

We are also one step closer now as our Chinese Visa's all came back yesterday without a hitch...

Look at that boy! Just when we were beginning to think we would never receive updated pictures...they arrived! My phone rang twice and went to voicemail before I could get back to an ecstatic Kimberly on the phone with news of recent photos. So the three of us (Jay, Kim, and Cam) logged in together to see the new pictures of EnYi. And now you, too, are sharing in the excitement.

Catch-Up

Think of this post as one to fill the gaps for some of you we have not talked to in awhile. Our adoption journey officially began in September 2008. It took one year to complete the paperwork...otherwise known as the “paper-chase.” In the final months of completing paperwork, we began looking at the children on the waiting child list. This list is comprised of children who are typically older than 18 months, and range from healthy to severely disabled. One can not help the overwhelming feeling of compassion as you read about each child. Realizing we could not help them all, but feeling compelled to adopt a child from the list, we began the emotional task of perusing all the files. It was not long before we found our son Li, EnYi. The following 48 hours dragged on very slowly as we waited to find out whether or not EnYi was still available. As in all good stories, this one has a happy ending (thus far), and as you probably guessed, we were officially matched in December of 2009. In the mean time, we have started a new round of paperwork, and began planning our trip to China to pick EnYi up and bring him home. Stay tuned as we await our official travel date. Right now it looks like late February or early March.
