We made it to Beijing

Greetings from China!
We started the morning at 0500 California time (we couldn't sleep because we were too excited!). To our advantage, there was a Starbucks 3 blocks to the north of our hotel where Jay and I tanked up on coffee and Campbell had an apple juice. 3 blocks on the other side of the hotel was a Safeway, where we stocked up on last minute snacks! Location, Location, Location! We even got to see the sun rise with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
We landed this afternoon around 3:15 Beijing-time and were met by our Great Wall guide at the airport. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get through customs, etc. The new terminal that was built for the Olympics is absolutely beautiful.
The bus drove us to our hotel, we got checked in; and can confirm what other bloggers have stated that the beds ARE as hard as rocks...and tiny!
However, at this point we are grateful for safe travels and anyplace where we can get horizontal for a few hours.
Campbell did great on the flight. He and Olivia sat next to each other and played DS "picto-chat" with CAPT Peg. He finally fell asleep 9 hours into the flight. The rest of us had a cat nap around the same time, but otherwise stayed awake...hopefully this will make the transition to China time a little easier. Tomorrow we plan on seeing one of the older villages in Beijing and will see an "acrobat show" tomorrow night.
We hope that all is well with each of you back in the states...will post more tomorrow, but for now will hopefully get some much needed sleep!
