We made it to Guangzhou!

Greetings from GZ! We had another (thankfully) uneventful flight from Beijing to GZ. Unfortunately, our guide was not there to meet us. Here is a snippet of the email to our agency that sums up the day:

I'm not sure whether to cry or find humor in this: When we arrived in Guangzhou this morning, we were met by one of the bell-hops...seriously! No, a non-English speaking bell hop with a sign with our names on it (minus one member of our party). We almost missed her because we were told to look for the green GWCA flag (which she did not have). She kept asking about the "bill for the entourage"(???)for 20,000 yuan...I had to sign something or the bus driver would not let us on until I signed something with a title of "Transfer Voucher" but with all Chinese characters...the bell hop kept repeating "bill to room for entourage" (???)...again, not sure whether to laugh or cry. When we arrived at the White Swan Hotel, she refused to come in with us. After aimlessly standing in the lobby waiting for our "guide", it was then that we realized that she was wearing the uniform of the bell-hops...that's when it clicked..."We're on our own". Anyway, we made our way to the desk and haggled with the desk crew about why we were being charged for the bus that picked us up. Finally, a manger came over to tell us the "guide" would take care of it"...again, what guide? She (the manager) told us that she would call the guide for us. So we made our way up to the rooms...spent an hour or so settling and unpacking. We then wanted to stock up on water and other snacks, so we gave ourselves a tour around the hotel. We then walked outside to see if we could find a place to buy these things at a reasonable price. We met some wonderful families who were able to point us in the right direction. We came back to the room to drop off supplies and check messages...nothing. So we let our son change into his bathing suit and go swimming. We stayed down there for an hour or so then came back up to check messages...nothing. Fearing the worst with less than 18 hours until "gotcha", we went down to the front desk to see if a message was there. We spent about 30 minutes explaining our dilemma to the desk crew, then another manager became involved. Finally, he hands me the phone and tells me it is our guide (approximately 1930) we were placed on the phone with Kelly. She proceeded to tell us that she had been trying to call us "all afternoon, but we did not answer the phone". It was then that she told us that she could not meet us "because another family needed her for a tour" and "to be ready at 0900 the next morning to exchange the money"...Finally, we made ourselves stop and be thankful for the great experiences we have had so far...knowing that tomorrow (hopefully, like childbirth) we will quickly forget the pain it took to get to this point.
We are still having trouble figuring out how to get the picture to post...stand by for that! Keep us in your prayers tomorrow as we meet our son for the first time at 1430 China time (that's around midnight Sunday night/Monday morning in Texas). We will most definitely try to get pictures of that moment!
